The Randy Players

The players first organized in 1946 as the Randolph County Little Theatre. They presented three productions a year, either in Union City or Winchester, and attendance was by membership season tickets only.

In the fall of 1962, that group re-organized and shortened its name to "Randy Players." The group restored the empty Boston Store at 218 Pearl Street in Union City into a theatre, which was called the Boston Playhouse. Many people worked long, hard hours to make this dream come true.

After three years, the building was sold, and the Randy Players' materials were put into storage. From then on, the Players gave their productions in whatever suitable space was available in Union City or Winchester.

In 1982, the Randy Players again re-organized, with the group deciding to sell single admission tickets to individual productions rather than season membership subscriptions. The group became more active, offering a variety of plays either with a dinner or dessert setting, and all of the events were, and continue to be staged in Union City.

In 1985, The Randy Players became an integral part of Farmers Merchant Days, with its one-act melodrama being a highlight of each year's festival. The Players also took their productions into other settings for special events.
